In Latin America social actors and local politicians increasingly apply popular consultations in conflicts over mining as a means of protest. Since 2002, 95 so called consultas populares have been taken place in six countries of the region, many more are planned.

The research group GLOCON has summarized hitherto realised or envisaged local popular consultations against mining in Latin America. The overview has been compiled based on academic literature and media reports. It will be updated continuously, but makes no claim to be exhaustive. We appreciate any information on possible errors or missing consultations, please send it to: noever.carla@fu-berlin.de or kristina.dietz@fu-berlin.de
